Norcliffe swaps Essex for SW16

Streatham IHC are pleased to announce that George Norcliffe is the latest new face to join us for the 24/25 season.

George is no stranger to the High Road as he was brought in by Jeremy Cornish back in 2016. The right-handed forward spent his junior career down the A3 at Guildford, before breaking into senior hockey with league rivals the Solent Devils where he made his mark on NIHL South 1 showing his offensive upside.

This then drew the attention of Jeremy Cornish at the start of the 2016 campaign which saw Norcliffe take a trip across the Solent to the Wightlink Raiders, where Norcliffe would link up with current Head Coach Ben Paynter until the demise of the Raiders a month later. Norcliffe would finish the 2016/17 season on the High Road returning 22 points in 23 games, including 15 goals.

Since then, George has split his time across Bracknell, Basingstoke where he was named Captain, and most recently the Romford Raiders, averaging around a point per game in the National League. Norcliffe will no doubt add fire power to our offence, and we can’t wait to see him in action come September!

Coach Ben Paynter commented,

“Norcs is another guy that I try to bring to Streatham every year and I’m pleased to say the perseverance has finally paid off! Stats don’t lie and he has shown the offensive threat he can be at the level above so I can’t wait to see what he brings for us this year. He is a big, strong guy that has speed and a great shot. He plays the game the right way and I think he will fit in with our group seamlessly. To be successful you need to have leaders, George being named Captain in Basingstoke shows the leadership qualities he has, and I can’t wait to see how he impacts our line up!”

George commented,

“I’m excited to be back in Streatham. I’ve known Paynts a long time, and this year it makes sense for me to step down, so I’m glad he gave me a call, or 20. The club has had some unbelievable success over the past few years, so I hope we can continue that, and I’ll be doing everything I can to contribute to the team’s success.”
