Paynter Returns as Player- Head Coach for 2026/27
Streatham Ice Hockey Club are pleased to confirm that Ben Paynter has re-signed as Player-Head Coach for the 2026/27 season.
Since stepping into the role in 2022/23, Paynter has led the club through one of its most successful periods, delivering league, league cups and playoff titles and, most recently, guiding the team to Challenge Cup success this season.
A long-standing figure at Streatham, Paynter first joined the club as a player in 2017 and returned in 2019 after a brief spell with the Bracknell Bees. He has remained a key presence ever since.
Still producing on the ice, Paynter has tallied 231 points for the club, entering him into the top 10-point scorers in the club’s history, underlining his continued impact in a dual role.
With the playoffs ahead, focus remains on finishing the current campaign strongly, while preparations are already underway for another competitive season in 2026/27.
General manager Graham D’anger commented:
“I'm very pleased to announce that Ben Paynter will be back as head coach next season. With Ben's passion for the game, it was an easy decision to make. We both look forward to next season and bringing back some more silverware to the High Road.”
Coach Paynter had the following to say:
“I’m excited to be back for another season, our main focus at the moment is the play offs but building for next season has already begun. The top of this league is an exciting place at the moment and I’m excited to compete to be up there and competing for more silverware in the year to come.”
