Maximum coverage in net for Streatham!
The Streatham RedHawks are pleased to welcome netminder Max Van Mullem to the High Road for the 26/27 campaign
One of the most highly rated goalie prospects in UK hockey, Max has come through the academy systems at Guildford, Romford and Haringey. And arrives as a netminder who has already shown great ability but who also has a great deal of potential. Which is further underlined by his call ups to the GB junior program. Which has seen Max backstop GB to bronze and silver medals in recent seasons
The young netminder is excited to join up with the RedHawks
“I am absolutely thrilled to be signing with the Streatham Redhawks for the 26/27 season! I can't wait to get out there, meet all of the incredible fans, and get to work. Let’s build on last year’s fantastic run and bring some more silverware home where it belongs.”
Max made his senior debut in NIHL 1 with the Romford Buccaneers in 24/25, where he would split the starters job initially with Sonny Phillips, starting 20 games to Phillips 17, returning a GAA of 3.87 and save percentage of .899 before cementing his place as starting choice during the back end of last season while posting a GAA of 4.81 and a save percentage of .892 in the regular season, before a 4.00 and .912 during the play offs.
Stats alone are not a good indicator of ability and potential in a goalie however, as the stats are influenced by a teams performances. The key is the eye test, and watching Max’s play show cases a netminder with the ability to improve upon what’s on paper. Which was apparent during both the play offs and games played against Streatham as Max made big saves to limit the damage the RedHawks offence was able to do.
Something coach Paynter will be expecting more of from Max this season.
“With Danny Milton retiring I wanted to ensure I brought in a goalie that would truly make the best tandem in the league. I’m a firm believer that having 2 goalies that can both get the job done is massive in having success in this league. Bringing Max in does exactly that, he is young, energetic and wants to push himself to be the best he can.
I think it will genuinely be a healthy tandem, with both Brett and Max pushing each other to be at their best and compete for the net while supporting each other when needed. They’re both great lads and have fantastic personalities. I had always heard great things about Max as a person and when speaking to him, it was immediately evident why people think so highly of him.
He showed in the play offs against us that he can compete under pressure and have a stellar performance and this was reinforced by his performances with GB18s in this years world championships.
I can’t wait to see him in red come September”
