Geordie blueliner returns

Streatham IHC are delighted to announce the return of Andrew Cook to the squad for 2020/21.

The 25 year old will ice at the High Road for a second season after playing his part in our league and cup double last year. The native North Easterner joined us after taking a year away from the sport, but soon got back up to speed with consistent performances on our blue line.

"It was an easy decision to sign at Streatham for a second season after the club made me feel welcome and showed me what a great fan base they have" said Cook.

"For me last season was a great way to get back into the sport and the success we had last year makes it all more memorable. That said, our moment was cut short and we have unfinished business so we will be using that momentum to take into this season.

"Farny is putting together a strong team and after playing much of last season alongside him, I am looking forward to see him step into the coaching role. The boys will all be completely behind him and I know everyone can’t wait to get going again. Last year’s success now increases expectations around the High Road but I am confident that with everyone buying into the systems, we have what it takes to again meet those expectations."

Cook grew up playing hockey at Whitley Bay where he rose through the juniors before making his senior debut with the Warriors. A spell in Sheffield while at University followed, before he headed down to the capital.

Cook adds to a roster that already includes Damien King, Scott Bailey, Jordan Gregory, Ziggy Beesley, James Warman, Vanya Antonov, Adam Wood, Ryan Watt and Ben Paynter plus Player Coach Michael Farn.

Farn himself is pleased to have his fellow blueliner signed up for another year.

“It’s great to have another solid presence in Cooky back on the blue line. Last season was his first season back playing after a lengthy absence, but you would never have known by his solid, consistent performances each week.

“He keeps himself in great shape, has fantastic work ethic and an all-round great bloke. I am expecting to see even more from Cooky this year, now that he’s got almost a full season under his belt.”

To own and loan Andrew Cook’s Streatham jerseys this season please email streatham1972@yahoo.co.uk . They cost £100 for either the home or away jersey and you get to add a message to the back of the jersey and keep it at the end of the season – we will wash out any game stains (unless you want them left on).
