Shepherding the net for 2026/27!
Streatham IHC are excited to announce the return of Brett Shepherd for the 26/27 season.
A graduate of the Streatham academy, Shepherd returns after what was undoubtedly his most successful season in South 1 with the RedHawks. The last 2 seasons have seen the young goalie take over the starters role and become a championship winning netminder at south 1 level in the process.
While a graduate of the academy, Brett has been on a journey before arriving back home with Streatham. Playing in and winning the NIHL 2 League and National titles with Slough Jets and being part of their roster on the Jets return to NIHL 1. Before stepping up to the National League with the Berkshire Bees.
In 24/25 Brett returned home to Streatham, taking over for the injured Danny Milton. Forming a potent 1A 1B partnership in the net for Streatham once Milton returned towards the end of the season and giving the club the same with his return for last season. Another injury to Milton put Brett in the position of club number 1 around February time for the end of season run in.
“I'm super excited to be signing again with Streatham. 2025/26 was the most successful season in my career and winning trophies is addictive, so that will be the aim again heading into next season. I look forward to seeing everyone again in September!”
Brett would back stop the team through many big games and moments in the end of season run in. His style of play and confidence in net, transitioning into a confidence that allowed the lines Infront of him to play with the added confidence of knowing if something got through, he’d likely stop it.
All this was underline by Brett having the best save percentage among regular starting netminders at .928% and the best overall Goals against average of 1.57 GAA. Brett would cement his position and calibre as a championship winning netminder in Sheffield. Where his composed performance in the shootout, won Streatham the South 1 play offs before stopping everything the next day against Blackburn to win the National play off title
Coach Paynter looks forward to seeing Bretts continued development after a season where he made the starters job his own
“Everyone knows that goaltending can make or break a season and Brett was a massive part of making our season last year. Over the last 2 seasons he has grown as a player in his performances and confidence and really cemented himself as a championship winning goalie. His performances leading into the play offs made the starting position in the play offs his and he showed in Sheffield how to get the job done.
He has matured into a reliable goalie who competes every night and someone who gives us a chance to win every night.
He is a pleasure to be around in the room and his team mates want to go to battle for him.
I’m excited to see how he can build on last year this coming season.”
