Streatham Shuts Out Solent And Down Jets

Match Report by Chris Beal

Streatham completed a 6-point weekend bouncing back from last weekend’s defeat to Chelmsford Chieftains.

With a come from behind win over fellow title rivals Slough Jets on Saturday winning 3-2. Before shutting out the Solent Devils 3-0 on Sunday night.

On the Saturday Streatham would take the win in a hard-fought game, marked by physicality and aggression. With several moments of contention between the rival sides.

The first would end 0-0, with Streatham struggling to break down the Jets D and generate chances that could test Jets goalie Matt Smital.

The Jets would open the scoring in the 2nd as former Redhawk Brandon Miles would net for the hosts on a 5 on 3 powerplay at 23:39

Lewis English would extend the hosts lead at 35:59 to make it 2-0 Jets. With 5 minutes left in the 2nd

Streatham would answer back 3 minutes later at 38:13. Ryan Watt breaking Smitals shutout. To make it a 1 goal game heading into the 2nd break.

Streatham would strike first in the 3rd at 42 minutes, as JJ Pitchley netted a rebound to tie up the game 2-2

8 minutes later at 50 minutes, a turnover on a Jets powerplay would release Jared Lane who would score the game winner for Streatham, 3-2.

Sunday the RedHawks wrapped up a 6-point weekend with a 3-0 win over the Solent Devils.

Like the night before the opening period was a 0-0 draw, Streatham applying plenty of pressure, but Aaron Taylor in the Devils net would save everything thrown at him. While Brett Shepherd would make the stops on any Devils counterattack that generated a chance

Streatham opened the scoring in the 2nd. Luke Brittle the Redhawk able to find a way past Taylor at 29 minutes.

4 minutes later Streatham would extend the lead to 2-0. At 33 minutes Ethan Lane would backhand from close range past Taylor to make it 2-0

Taylor and Shepherd would continue to stop everything thrown at them for the remainder of the game. With Taylor facing the brunt of wave after wave of Streatham attacks. Before at 58 minutes the Devils would pull Taylor for the extra attacker

The gamble would backfire, and Luke Brittle would collect the puck and score the empty netter to seal the win Streatham 3-0 Solent

Post-game coach Paynter was pleased with the results of the weekend.

“Good teams find a way to win, and we needed to bounce back massively, and I think we did just that. After a bad weekend against Chelmsford last week, we needed to refind our form again, find a bit of intensity. And I’m pleased because we did exactly that. Slough wasn’t pretty, but the boys did exactly what I asked. Stuck to the game plan, ground it out and found a way to win.”

Up next this evening, we welcome the Oxford City Stars for the first time this season.
