SUNDAY 10TH NOVEMBER 2024
Stars fall in Streatham
Match Report by Chris Beal
Streatham continued its successful start to the campaign with another win on home ice on Sunday. With a 15-1 win over the Oxford City Stars on the high road.
It took just 16 seconds for the hosts to open the scoring as Luke Brittle netted the opener past Stars netminder Morgan Parsons. Parsons would withstand a barrage of Streatham chances for the next 10 minutes before Aidan Doughty would double up the lead making it 2-0 Streatham.
Oxford would hold steady for a further 7 minutes before 4 goals across 4 minutes would see Streatham end the period 6-0 up. Harvey Stead, Ethan Lane, Danny Ingoldsby and Sam Waller with the goals, just before the break.
In the second, it would take Streatham just 52 seconds, and once again Brittle would be the first scorer of the frame, going end to end. Scoring a chance that would include an oh so rare goalie assist, going to Nik Romahs.
Parsons and Oxford would then again lock things down, looking for counter attacks. But 13 minutes later at 33 minutes on the clock. Ben Paynter would net goal number 8. Before in quick succession Roman Cathcart and Jared Lane would score goals 9 and 10 for the hosts. To see the score at Streatham 10-0 Oxford
In the final period it would take Streatham 6 minutes, before scoring. JJ Pitchley netting the 11th.
At 52 minutes in, Oxford would opt for a change in netminder as Parsons would make way for Nathan Herman-Moss. Moss would stem the bleeding for a few minutes but eventually at 54 minutes Streatham would strike again as Luke Brittle completed his hattrick. A minute later Ryan Watt would net Streatham’s 13th.
13 goals would be unlucky though for the RedHawks it seemed, as 2 minutes later at 57 on the clock. Joe Covey would get a break away chance, scoring to break Nik Romahs shut out. Making it 13-1 Streatham
Streatham would fire in 2 more before the game was up. Henry Aiken would net his first goal in 4 seasons at 58 minutes. Before with 10 seconds on the clock Ethan Lane would net the 15th and final goal for Streatham.
After the game coach Paynter was reservedly pleased with the result, and how his team had handled the game as a whole.
“Games like that, are not the kind we really want to be playing in. But we dealt with the overall situation professionally, we knew what to expect going in, we tried out a few new things, which I think worked well. And overall, I’m pleased with how we finished the game out. They were with us in the beginning, but we knew if we kept going and played with speed, we would wind them down as we did."
This evening we welcome the Invicta Dynamo’s, games between us and the team from Medway are always entertaining so hopefully we’re in for a good game. Next weekend on Sunday 24th November. We will welcome Slough Jets, in a game with implications for the title fight. Facing off at 18:45pm.
