Streatham Douse Fire
Match Report by Chris Beal
The RedHawks continued with their run of good form on home ice this past weekend with an 11-0 win over the Cardiff fire to keep them top of the NIHL 1 South league table.
The Fire had suffered a heavy defeat on home ice the night before against the Invicta Dynamos. While the RedHawks were playing their only game of the weekend.
While the game would begin in the way most Streatham home games do with the hosts pilling on the pressure, with wave after wave of attack on the Fire net. In the early going the combination of Ben Scanlan and a defence that did a good job of using the collapsing box defensive model. Frustrated the Streatham offence.
In fact, it took 6 minutes before Streatham would score the first of the game. Aidan Doughty continuing his goal scoring streak at 633, assisted by Danny Ingoldsby and Jared Lane.
The trio would combine again on Streatham’s second goal, at 936. This time Ingoldsby with the finish and Lane and Doughty providing the assists.
2 minutes later Dylan Dix would net his first as a Redhawk with a shot from up high at the blue line, timed at 1123. Dan Rose and Ryan Watt getting the helpers for this one.
JJ Pitchley would net goal number 4 at 1518, his 5th of the campaign and 3rd in as many weeks. Sam Waller and again Ryan Watt providing the assists.
Then it was head coach Ben Paynter’s turn at 1719. With availability issues the versatile defensive forward has been filling in on the back end to start the season, so offensive chances haven’t been in ready supply. But the coach didn’t miss after being set up by Ethan Lane and Watt again. To round out the period Streatham 5-0 Cardiff
Fire would put up more of a staunch defence in the second period. The play was still very much tilted in favour of the hosts, but Streatham just lacked a finishing ability on the chances handed to them in the second. While at the same time the Fire continued to play solid defence in spite of the 5-0 score line.
At 3136 Streatham would score the only goal of the period, as JJ Pitchley would net his 6th of the campaign. Assisted by Dan Rose. To see the period, close out Streatham 6-0 Cardiff
It would take less than a minute in the second for Streatham to continue the scoring. Louis Colvin skating in from the half board to net his first as a Redhawk at 4058, to extend the score to 7-0 Streatham.
2 minutes later Ingoldsby would net again making it 8-0 Streatham, with assists to Ziggy Beesley and Aidan Doughty.
Having assisted on 2 goals Ryan Watt would the add the first of 2 on the night at 4418, with an assist to Jordan Gregory as the RedHawks further extended to 9-0 on the night.
A bench minor penalty against Streatham and a subsequent Powerplay for the Fire couldn’t break the shutout on Brett Shepherds net. And with 2 minutes on the clock Streatham would strike twice. Dan Rose netting his second for the club this campaign at 5823, before Ryan Watt rounded out the scoring at 5831 with Streatham’s 11th of the game. To see the final score come in at Streatham 11-0 Cardiff .
Post-game head coach Paynter was pleased with the outcome.
“We had an idea of what to expect tonight. And so, it was important to do the little things right. We didn’t want to just go through the motions, I wanted us playing the right way and I think we did for 40 minutes of the game. We had a bit of a blip in the second, but other than that yeah I’m pleased.”
Up next the RedHawks are off on the road as the travel to Swindon to take on the wildcats 2. Before returning to home ice action on November 22nd as they welcome the Chelmsford Chieftains facing off at 5:30pm.
