Streatham IHC can confirm that forward Vanya Antonov will miss the remainder of the season as he takes up an opportunity outside of hockey at the end of this month..
Vanny has been a standout performer for the club, bringing not only goals but also a top class attitude to the team and has already cemented himself as a fan favourite on the High Road. Speaking on the matter, he said:
"Obviously it is very hard to leave the team at such a time, but the team has lots of talent and the atmosphere in room is electric, there is definitely a special feel in the air.
"The team has bonded really well over the course of this year and I have no doubt that we will win some silverware in the coming months."
Vanny will play his final home game of the season this weekend as we host Cardiff Fire on Saturday at Streatham Arena. Then ice in our final game of January in Chelmsford before departing overseas.
Player Coach Adam Carr has left the door open for Vanny to return should circumstances change, but concedes that for the time being, the winger will depart on his next adventure with the club’s best wishes.
“We are obviously disappointed to be losing Vanny for the rest of the season, he is a top class player and a great character to have in the dressing room.
“I know he is sad to be leaving, as he loves it here in Streatham, but his life outside of hockey has to come first and we fully support his decision and wish him all the success he deserves. I’m sure all of our supporters will join me in thanking Vanny for everything he has contributed so far this year and give him a good send off on Saturday.
“We have a couple of possibilities as far as strengthening the squad before the deadline is concerned, but if nothing comes up then I’m not worried as I believe in the team we have here, and think we have demonstrated the depth we have with our results so far.”
